Joseph City is celebrating 150 years this Founders Day, beginning at 4 p.m. this Friday, March 20, with a campfire circle. Family and friends are invited to gather at the historical Joseph City Dam. Bring chairs and a “dinner picnic” for your group. Explore the old dam and irrigation system and learn what it took for the founders to make Joseph City thrive.
On Saturday, March 21, the day begins at 6 a.m. with the traditional anvil blast and 5K and 10K run/walk at the LDS church, located at 8181 Westover Ave.
From 7 to 9 a.m. a flag ceremony and pancake breakfast will be held at the LDS church. At 10 a.m. the parade begins, with the parade to travel down Main Street. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a barbecue and fundraising auction will take place at the Joseph City Firehouse on Main Street.
At 2 p.m. there’s a lot of activities taking place. It’s fun on the farm at The Farm on Route 66, located off Porter Road. A boutique and a ‘Walk Through History’ will take place at the Old Gym, located next to the Joseph City Unified School District offices, located at 8176 Westover Ave. A three-on-three basketball tournament will be held at Joseph City High School, located at 4629 2nd N. St. This is a fundraiser for the girls basketball team so there will be a fee to participate. There will also be a rifle shoot out in the Badlands (bring your own gun and ammunition).
From 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, it’ll be fun for the entire family with swing dance instruction at the Old Gym. At 6 p.m. there will be plenty to eat with food trucks on hand, followed by a family dance from 7 to 10 p.m., all at the Old Gym.
