Navajo County Manager Jimmy Jayne was recognized by the Board of Supervisors during a Feb. 8 meeting for his selection as the recipient of the 2011 John DeBolske Professional Excellence Award.

According to the Arizona City/County Managers Association (ACMA), “The John J. DeBolske Professional Excellence Award was created in 1997 to recognize city/county mangers who demonstrate the highest level of professional excellence in local government and who have made life contributions in serving the profession. This is the highest honor that ACMA may bestow upon a member.”

The supervisors congratulated Jayne on the award, which he received during the ACMA’s winter conference held during the first week of February in Sedona.

In bestowing the award, ACMA officials noted that Jayne was chosen “for his exemplary service to Navajo County, the profession and our association.”

The organization also noted, “Jimmy (Jayne) has been extensively involved in the affairs of both the ACMA and ICMA (International City/County Managers Association), serving as the immediate past president of ACMA, Jimmy has been an outstanding advocate for our profession within Arizona and across the country. Prior to his term as president of ACMA, Jimmy served on ACMA’s board of directors and as chair of the conference planning committee. He has also served on ICMA’s conference planning and nominating committees.”

Jayne is the only recipient of the award in recent years from Northern Arizona or a rural area. Winners over the last 10 years have hailed from Chandler, Peoria, Casa Grande, Phoenix and Mesa. He is also the first county manager to appear on that list, with the award going to city and town managers since 1998.

Regarding the award, Supervisor David Tenney remarked, “Jimmy is a dedicated public servant whose commitment to the public management profession is demonstrated by his service to the elected officials, employees and residents of Navajo County. He is deserving of this recognition.”
