The Holbrook Unified School District (HUSD) No. 3 Governing Board held a special meeting Friday, July 31, during which the board approved the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) No. 1 from Core Construction. This initial GMP totals $594,498 to fund the beginning of procuring materials and services for the Park Elementary gym project. The GMP is a portion of the project that the district will provide funding for, with the remainder of the costs to be included in the final GMP. “Guarantee Maximum Price means that they will not go above that price, so they’re guaranteeing that they can do the work at that price, and then that saves us from going through change orders and then adding (to that),” explained Superintendent Dr. Robbie Koerperich.

The new gym, which will be 6,648 sq. ft. when complete, is part of an effort to prepare for Hulet Elementary students grades fourth through fifth to move to Park Elementary. This transition is due to the majority of the Hulet campus being deemed ‘end of useful life’ by the Arizona School Facilities Board, according to Dr. Koerperich during the July 14 meeting.

Board Member Alfred Clark was absent.
