After more than a year in development, a new motocross park on 110 acres of city-leased property in Holbrook is on track to open its gates this spring. The venture is the work of Daniel and Hailee Hutchins, a husband-and-wife team from Joseph City who own Rutz MX and first introduced their concept at a “Moonshot Pitch” event designed to help entrepreneurs secure seed money. Initially, the course was planned for the Woodruff area, but after some negotiating and with the help of local officials, the Hutchins were able to secure city-owned property in Holbrook, setting the stage for a facility they hope will become a regional draw. The park is directly north of the county’s public works department across the highway from the county’s government complex.
The park will feature three distinct courses for riders of varying skill levels. Two of the courses, one for children and beginners and another for intermediate riders, have already been completed. Work is currently underway to finalize an expert-level course that the Hutchins plan to have ready before the grand opening. In addition to these three main tracks, there are plans for a trials course that will challenge riders by having them navigate a series of obstacles rather than traditional laps. The opening date is set for March 1, “if weather permits,” Hailee clarified.
Before the park can host competitive events, the American Motorcyclist Association will need to review and approve the courses. Daniel is confident that the facility will meet AMA standards, opening the door to officially sanctioned competitions as frequently as every couple of months. The prospect of holding regular events has the Hutchins optimistic that the park will not only attract riders from across the region but also give a boost to local tourism. This kind of growth and attention could ultimately benefit Holbrook and the surrounding communities.
Ensuring rider safety is a top priority, and proper gear, including motocross boots, goggles, helmets, and gloves, will be required. The courses will be monitored and maintained at least once or twice a week to keep conditions safe and appealing. Fences and other barriers will be in place to keep spectators out of harm’s way. The Hutchins plan to include options for overnight camping where visitors can camp if they would like.
The new motocross park stands to offer far more than just a place for riders to test their skills. It has the potential to draw visitors from all over the region, filling local hotels, restaurants and shops with new customers. For residents of Holbrook and the surrounding communities, it will introduce a fresh option for leisure and recreation, transforming what was once unused city land into a bustling hub of activity. As a result, the entire area could see greater economic vitality, a stronger sense of community engagement and a welcome addition to the list of attractions that make this corner of Arizona a destination worth exploring.
