This Fourth of July, our communities come alive with celebration, laughter and the joy of being together. Independence Day isn’t just about history, it’s about creating memories with family, neighbors and friends, hopefully while avoiding sunburn, mosquito bites and overcooked hot dogs.

From lively parades that fill our streets with vibrant colors and music to backyard barbecues where the burgers are sometimes more charcoal than beef, these gatherings embody the heart and soul of our communities. Children run wild with sparklers, sticky from popsicles, while adults do their best to remember which cooler they put the good drinks in. There’s laughter, lawn games that get a little too competitive and plenty of someone saying, “Is it time for fireworks yet?”

As the sun sets, picnic blankets stretch across lawns and plaza benches fill with residents ready for the grand finale. The sky becomes a canvas of color and light, prompting oohs, aahs and the occasional dog trying to flee to another county. But in those moments, we’re all together—smiling, snacking, and swatting bugs—in that magical, midsummer feeling of belonging.

Today, we celebrate not just independence, but also the joy of shared experiences. It’s a day for laughter, tall tales, lawn chair politics and seeing someone you haven’t seen since last year’s fireworks probably still wearing the same flag-themed shorts.

So whether you’re attending a community event, manning the grill, or just watching fireworks from your driveway with a scoop of melting ice cream, take a second to appreciate the people around you. These are the moments that remind us why we love living here.

Have a joyful, safe and delightful Independence Day!
