By Linda Kor The Hashknife Posse held its annual farewell dinner on Jan. 28 before heading out on their Hashknife Pony Express Ride the following day. The evening included dinner and a presentation of framed Hashknife posters to businesses and entities that promoted and support the posse over the year. This year’s ride was dedicated to former posse member Marlin Gillespie for his devotion not only to the posse but also to all of Navajo County as he served as sheriff and a county supervisor. A touching presentation was made by First Lieutenant Rusty DeSpain to posse member Jose Villareal who had hoped to be able to take part in the ride but was unable to do so due to health reasons. The presentation included handmade turquoise crosses for the riders for who chose to carry one on the ride. He explained that he would carry one of the crosses on behalf of Villareal who would be sorely missed at this year’s ride. Photos by Linda Kor
