Gilbert Owens Mitchell, 60, passed away on Aug. 31, 2026, in Dilkon. He was born on Sept. 20, 1965, to Jim L. and Ilene Mitchell in Ft. Defiance. Gilbert completed his high school education and then went to college. He went to Toyei Police Academy then went to work for the Navajo Nation Police Department. His other jobs he had were LLPD, Clyde’s Machine Shop and lastly Dilkon Medical Center Security. He enjoyed movies, dancing, softball, volleyball, paint ball and metal work.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie May Mitchell; sons, Matthew, Marcus, Travis and Michael; daughters, Kara, Kori, Leah and Kelsi; mother, Ilene Mitchell; brother, Gary; sisters, Diana, Lesia, Sheila and Deschelle; and nine grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jim Mitchell; and brothers, Darrell Mitchell and Marcus Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, Sept. 4, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Winslow Stake Center. Viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Relief Society Room.
