Scott Bowler updated the Taylor Town Council last week on the upcoming Route 66 White Mountain GeoTour and Geocaching, a regional event organizers anticipate will keep people coming back to the participating communities.
Bowler is organizing the Town of Taylor’s portion of the event, and said that they have determined all five of the geocache locations.
They are still waiting for knickknacks that will be put into the hidden boxes, but anticipate using a Taylor lapel pin.
He explained that each geocache participant will have a secret code that will give the participant points. They will also get extra points if they stay in a local motel and eat at a local restaurant.
“Currently, we’re working on sponsorships,” said Bowler, noting that there are different levels of sponsorships ranging from $100 to $1,000. The higher the level of sponsorship, the more exposure the business will have in advertising, such as blurbs on Facebook, and Twitter, and businesses could get a booth at the grand finale.
“We are trying to come up with a few social media blurbs of our own so they can send something out to the masses,” said Bowler.
The start of the event has been pushed back from April 27, because not every community is ready.
“Our kickoff event will be tied to Trapper Days,” he said.
“Good job for getting ours,” said Councilman Jason Brubaker.
If someone in the community would like to help get sponsors or participate in the grand finale, organizers would like to have them involved. Contact Town Manager Gus Lundberg at town hall at 536-7366 or Brubaker at Silver Creek Mortuary at 536-4045.
