The Winslow Arts Council will host Painted Paws, a fundraiser for the Winslow Animal Control Facility at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 12. The event coincides with the Art Council’s monthly second Saturday, which will include art on exhibit at Gemini Gallery, located at 210 N. Kinsley Ave. Council recording secretary Roberta Cano said, “In addition to the art, we are going to have a pet themed photo booth where people can take pictures with their pets.” Business owner Sondra Purcell will sponsor prizes for the best pet photos.
Kinsley Avenue from Second to Third streets will be closed for the event. The Winslow Junior High Art Club will have a vending table with popcorn, candy and hot dogs. Other vendors will also be on site for the day’s events, DJ’s Doggie Treats, pet accessories, a dog trainer, a dog groomer, dog sitters and more.
The Animal Control Facility will also be hosting an adopt-a-thon during the festivities. Raffles will be held all day for prizes to include pet treats and original works of art by local artists. “Those proceeds will go to the shelter. We have really focused on the facility this year. In fact, the Arts Council recently facilitated donations for the shelter from Purina, Pet Smart and Home Depot,” stated Cano.
In addition to the day of pet celebration, visitors will also be treated to a movie in the newly renovated Route 66 Plaza. “The movie is a surprise but I can tell you it is a secret about the lives of pets,” Cano said with a smile. There will even be an opportunity to pay homage to pets that have been lost on the Remembrance Wall. “We encourage you to put pictures of your furry friends that you have lost on our wall, we understand that they are part of our families.” The entire event is free of charge and is family and pet friendly.
