Former Arizona Congressman Rick Renzi reported to a federal correctional institution in Morgantown, W.Va., last Friday, to begin his three-year sentence for corruption, money laundering and other charges.
Renzi, 56, was able to postpone serving his sentence for a time, but on Feb. 23 the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against any more delays.
He was convicted in 2013 of conspiring to use his congressional post to influence companies to buy his former business associate’s land so the associate could repay a debt owed to Renzi.
Renzi served as Arizona’s District 1 Congressman from 2003 to 2009.
