By Linda Kor There will be few challengers for Navajo County offices in the upcoming primary election to be held on Aug. 4, with a majority of the positions being sought by incumbents. Those running for office who will be competing on the primary ballot include: Navajo County Sheriff David Clouse, a Democrat, who will be facing off against fellow Democrat Matthew Duran during the primary. Superior Court Judge Division II Robert J. Higgins, a Democrat, will face off against fellow Democrat Melinda Hardy. District 4 Supervisor Daryl Seymore, a Republican, will be sharing the ballot with fellow Republicans Greg Butler and Allison Hephner. Those running unopposed in the upcoming election include: County Attorney Brad Carlyon, a Democrat. County Assessor Cammy Darris, a Democrat. County Recorder Michael Sample, a Democrat who was recently appointed by the Navajo County Board of Supervisors to fill that position. County School Superintendent Jalyn Gerlich, a Democrat. County Treasurer Kari Hernandez-Lopez, a Democrat. Superior Court Judge Division III Dale Nielson, a Democrat. Superior Court Judge Division IV Michala Ruechel, a Democrat. District 3 Supervisor Jason Whiting, a Republican. For the Board of Supervisors District 2 position, Albert Peshlakai (D) is the only candidate running for a position that has long been held by Jesse Thompson who will not be running to retain that seat. District 5 Supervisor Dawnafe Whitesinger, a Democrat.
