“We have been successful securing the easement,” noted Taylor Public Works Director Ron Solomon as he reported to the town council Oct. 5 on the progress of the Freeman Hollow Road project.
“The owner did not want at this time to grant a right-of-way for a couple of reasons, but we do have an easement for roadway purposes,” said Solomon.
He had reported at the September council meeting that the property owner wanted the south end of Freeman Hollow Road straightened out, and that had been done, he told the council.
“The proposal to chip seal this fall has been postponed to spring. It’s just too cold to do chip seal work,” Solomon said.
In other business, Solomon reported that a call for bids had been advertised to perform on-call pothole maintenance, but no bids were received. Having received no bids allows staff to pursue negotiations with a company that will do the work. “We met the legal requirements for now and that’s all that’s required,” said Mayor Fay Hatch.
Ray Hancock was unanimously approved as chairman of the Rodeo Committee, replacing Eddie Hancock, who tendered his resignation after 42 years of service.
“He realizes there are some big shoes to fill there. He was a little hesitant at first to try to match or keep up with what Eddie did,” said Mayor Hatch. “I told him it was his ball game and he could do it as he wants.”
