Petrified Forest Museum Association has announced the arrival of its latest publication, Dawn of the Dinosaurs: The Late Triassic in the American Southwest by Christa Sadler with Bill Parker, Ph.D., and Sidney Ash, Ph.D.

The book was written to bring understanding to the scientific processes of paleontology that provides information about the past ecosystems that flourished over 200 million years ago in a world very different than today.

There will be short lectures and autograph sessions by the authors at the Painted Desert Community Building in the Painted Desert Community Complex at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, with each talk to be followed by a two-hour autograph session. The Painted Desert Community Complex is located 23 miles east of Holbrook and can be reached by taking Interstate 40 to Exit 311.

Those interested in a more immersive learning experience are encouraged to check out the Petrified Forest Field Institute. Classes and hikes are offered that will get you into the field whether you are interested in getting your hands dirty looking for fossils, exploring ancient rock art, photography, hiking to remote locations or spending the day getting a full overview of the park’s treasures.
