David Wernke Kronick

David Wernke Kronick, 72, of Winslow, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022.

David was married to the love of his life, Nancy, for nearly 40 years. The two met at the Gourmet Room in Cincinnati as David was beginning his culinary career. They fell in love and shared a deep interest in all things culinary. In pursuit of his passion for food, David, Nancy and her two sons Kevin and Kerry, moved to Vail where David opened his very first restaurant “Cyranos.” From there they moved to Palm Springs where David opened his first catering company and a late night jazz club, “The Greeks.”

David spent his later years with Nancy in the high desert outside of Yucca Valley. There they embraced the ranch life, caring for horses, burros and their two dogs. David and Nancy loved the desert and were both active members of the Morongo Basin Horsemen’s Association and volunteered for the Yucca Mesa Improvement Association, cooking and serving annual holiday meals together.

David was a devoted husband and cared for Nancy throughout her fight with cancer. He never left her bedside during those difficult final days.

David settled in Winslow in 2017 with his sister, Donna Kronick. Always quick to make new friends and connect with his community, David embraced the history and culture of his new home, volunteering for the Old Trails Museum. His passion for cooking followed him to Winslow where he spent the last several years running the kitchen at Camp Colton.

David will be remembered for his warmth and kind spirit. He had an incredible ability to make friends with anyone and always saw the very best in people. He will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his stepson, Kevin Brossart; and recently his sister, Donna Kronick.

He is survived by his stepson, Kerry (Harmony) Kronick of Madison, Wis.; his brother Wally Wernke of Medley, Fla; as well as other family and friends across the country.

Kerry and Harmony wish to sincerely thank David’s nephew David Leto, niece Dawn Leto and Mary Giannola, a dear friend and Camp Colton Director, for their care and support of David at the end of his life. Memorials may be made in David’s name to Camp Colton, a place he loved so much, at www.friendsofcampcolton.org/support.

Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow handled the arrangements.
