Fiscal year 2015 budget transfers were approved by the Taylor Town Council June 4.

During the discussion, Town Manager Gus Lundberg explained that once a municipal budget has been set and approved, you cannot spend more than what is set in it.

He noted that you can transfer funds within the departments, but the total cannot exceed the approved budget amount.

“This is a case when we actually bring in more money and potentially we spend more,” said Lundberg explaining that the town budgeted $620,000 for town sales tax revenues, but he was confident the revenues would reach $685,000. The budget was $530,000 for ambulance fees, and he thought they would reach $565,000 by June 30, the end of the budget year.

Lundberg noted that the Special Events Committee is not tied to a department and has requested new bleachers, which the council approved, so they must transfer $10,000 for outside contracted services, adjusting the administrative budget of $305,000.

The special events budget was set at $65,000 and the council approved a transfer of $80,000 for an adjusted budget of $145,000. The fire budget was set at $140,000 and the council approved a transfer of $5,000 for an adjusted budget of $145,000. The ambulance budget was set at $555,000 and council approved a $30,000 transfer, which set the budget at $585,000.

Lundberg said that with the approval of the intergovernmental agreement with Snowflake for fire and ambulance services there will be additional costs and revenue coming from Snowflake, and he felt that $35,000 would accommodate those two departments.

The town manager noted that the contingency budget was set at $500,000 and will require $125,000 to be taken out of that budget and given to the other departments, leaving $375,000 in the contingency budget.
