By Tammy Gray Navajo County officials are seeking public input on customer service provided by county employees. The board of supervisors approved a survey to measure the effectiveness of the county’s five-year strategic plan during Tuesday’s meeting. The plan was implemented about two years ago, and is intended to “enhance the quality of life for the people of Navajo County by delivering excellence in service and leadership through teamwork, accountability, integrity, excellence and innovation.” Chris Frayer, an employee of the county assessor’s office, is leading the survey effort by the strategic planning team. He explained to the board that the team would like to know whether the work to improve customer service has been noticed by citizens. She also explained that the survey responses will guide future efforts. “The strategic plan has been in place for over two years and much has been done to achieve these goals, such as the employee recognition program, customer service training and the leadership academy. But what we don’t know is if these programs and trainings have impacted the citizens of Navajo County,” Frayer said. She noted that the survey will be made available on the county website at www.navajocountyaz.gov. Chairman Jesse Thompson said that he would like to see the survey made available in written form for residents who do not have Internet access. Frayer agreed to work to make that option available. Among the questions on the survey, residents are asked whether they have noticed an improvement in customer service since the strategic plan was implement two years ago. Board members unanimously approved use of the survey. In other action April 22, the board: * Implemented stage one emergency fire restrictions for all of Navajo County. The restrictions prohibit campfires, except in designated areas, as well as fireworks, smoking in most outdoor areas, and the use of explosive targets and tracer ammunition. * Proclaimed the month of May as Drug Court Month. * Approved a memorandum of agreement with the Arizona Living Well Institute for chronic disease self-management classes. * Approved the sale of surplus property by auction. * Approved the purchase of a 2014 Ford Escape from Show Low Ford for $26,441.01. * Approved an intergovernmental agreement with the U.S. Forest Service regarding wildland fires and other emergencies.
