By Naomi Hatch No action was taken regarding the employment of Taylor Town Manager Eric Duthie at last week’s town council meeting. Mayor Fay Hatch and members of the council asked to hold the meeting on July 10 rather than July 11 to accommodate all council members. The change of date reportedly met the legal criteria. Two items were added to the agenda. The first was council adjournment into executive session to receive legal advice regarding the employment agreement of the town manager, and the second was to adjourn into ex-ecutive session to discuss or consider the employment, assignment, appointment, promotion, demotion, dis-missal, salaries, disciplining or resignation of the town manager. It also stated that at the request of the town manager, the discussion or consideration could occur at a public meeting. The council adjourned into executive session for legal advice, noting that Duthie and Finance Director Gus Lundberg could be called into the executive session after the council members had met with their legal counsel, though Lundberg’s input would only be regarding financial information. The second added item was not discussed, and neither Duthie nor Lundberg were called into executive ses-sion. Upon returning to regular session, the mayor called for a motion. Councilman Shawn Palmer moved to disapprove authorization from the council to the mayor and appropri-ate town staff to negotiate with Duthie regarding his employment agreement. Councilman Gary Solomon sec-onded the motion and it passed unanimously. No comments were made on the matter. The meeting change caused the postponement of two public hearings scheduled on July 11. The hearings for the tentative budget for fiscal year 2012-13 and on the intent to adjust water rates will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1. Both items had been published in the newspaper for two weeks, and in order to meet state statutes the coun-cil unanimously approved authorizing publication of the town budget, and established revised date and time for public hearings on the budget and the intent to adjust water rates.
