A presentation on LED street lights was given by Robert Adams, president of C&W Energy Solutions, was given to the Winslow City Council Tuesday evening. He explained that LED lighting is based upon blue light and that some city street lights now are using such lights, which are much more efficient, cost much less to operate and last longer than the old fixtures. He said that Los Angeles has replaced 150,000 lights and is saving 60 to 70 percent of its operating costs.

City Manager Stephen Pauken advised the council that this would be a busy construction year on Interstate 40 in the area, according to an Arizona Department of Transportation engineer, and that usually results in more traffic tickets. He asked that they plan to come early to their next meeting prepared to make an important decision regarding law enforcement.

The preliminary schedule for health insurance costs shows a slight rise in rates, thanks to good work by Human Resources Director David Coolidge.

Pauken also noted that a runway at the airport was closed due to a jet aircraft, which blew a tire upon landing and could not be moved until a replacement was obtained.

As part of the consent calendar, an additional services agreement with Woodson Engineering for the Mike’s Pike East project for $39,850 was approved. Also approved were the check register, minutes of the Jan. 27 council meeting, and an agreement with Winslow Justice of the Peace B.J. Little to perform city magistrate duties.

The council adopted an ordinance amending various chapters dealing with subdivisions in the city code. This ordinance addressed a number of issues, but was mostly just updating the code to this century by removing some out of date items and adding new ones.
