Charles Edward “Chuck” Alexander, 77, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2016, surrounded by friends and family in Winslow. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the Winslow Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow in Desert View Cemetery in Winslow. He was born May 11, 1938, to Edgar and Pearl Alexander in Sweetwater, Tenn. Chuck came to Arizona in 1956. He was serving his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed at the radar base just west of Winslow until he was honorably discharged in 1960. He then began his 40-year career with the Santa Fe Railroad, now known as the BNSF Railroad. He retired from BNSF in 2000. Chuck had many hobbies he loved, including jigsaw puzzles, and his beautiful roses, yard, fruit trees and vegetable garden. He loved to hunt, fish, travel and cook. He enjoyed going to coffee with friends and loved watching old Westerns (especially John Wayne). He was a very loving, generous and kind man. He was a true Southern gentleman, but his greatest joy was to be with his grandchildren and all of his family get togethers. Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce Alexander; son, James Alexander (Jeff Scruggs); stepson, Chip Bruchman; daughter, Debbie Watson (Larry); step-daughter, Debbie Bumgarner (Randy); three sisters, Dot Collins, Barbara Teague (Ralph) and Brenda Deal (Charles); three brothers, Doug Alexander (Verna), Jimmie Alexander (Connie) and Jerry Alexander; his grandchildren, Ashley (Daniel) Middleton, Jessie Bumgarner, Brittani (Alex) Rush, Jeffrey Lawrence, Lacie Alexander and Cari Rogers; his great-grandchildren, Nicky, Jessa Lynn, Charlie, Tristan, Bradley, Gracie and Laydon; and many nieces, nephews and great friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Pearl Alexander; and his precious dog, Gypsy Rose.
