I have lived in Winslow my entire life. Currently I work as a conductor for BNSF Railroad and previously managed the service department for Cake’s Car Co., a family business that I was one-third owner until we sold the business in 2012. I served on the Winslow Youth Football Board, Winslow Little League Board, Winslow Planning and Zoning, Winslow City Council and currently on the Winslow Board of Adjustments. I decided to run for Winslow City Council again because I love Winslow and care about the future of our town. I served with some of the current council members. We worked through our last economic downturn in 2008 to keep Winslow operating with the loss of state and county funds. We are again facing an uncertain economy because of COVID-19. I feel that I can work with the new mayor and council members to keep Winslow moving forward. Every candidate talks about bringing business and growth back to our town, but it is not easy, there are so many factors that affect growth. We have many positive attractions, airport, railroad, I-40, State Route 87 and an abundance of water but we are also lacking in many areas. A workforce, affordable housing and our town is lacking appeal to businesses and new residents. There are too many vacant buildings, weeds, streets that need repair. This is a few of the things we need to start with. The economy is the biggest impact on growth. Before the last recession Winslow was on the verge of huge growth. There were housing developments being planned, businesses were seriously looking at Winslow to build. Everything suddenly stopped because of the recession. I want growth and prosperity for Winslow. A town our children can grow up with opportunities to get a good job and continue to live here. I tell the young people how robust Winslow was before the I-40 bypass was completed in 1984. Winslow had department stores, lumber yards, golf course and four new car dealerships and so many other businesses. That is what I want for the future of Winslow. A thriving town! I promise to work hard to make Winslow a better place for all residents and businesses to prosper.
