Billy John Sr., 88, entered into rest on Friday, July 1, 2011, in Flagstaff. Funeral services were held July 6 at the family residence in White Cone. Interment followed at the family plot in Na-Ah-Tee. Billy was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Cedar Springs. He was born of the Ashiini (salt) Clan for Spanish/Anglo. His nali was Nakaii and his chei was Totsohnii (Big Water), but he was adopted by the Tsinnajinnie Clan, and considered them his paternal parents. He had various jobs from working at White Mountain sawmill cutting wood to working at Belmont Army Depot during World War II. He worked for El Paso pipeline and in road construction, as well as working for the Apache and Santa Fe railroads. He retired from Santa Fe in 1986. After retirement he continued to stay busy as a rancher. He had multitudes of sheep, goats, cows and horses. His faith in God is truly an inspiration to all with whom he came in contact. He was always helping someone, even complete strangers, and never asking anything in return. In addition to raising his own children, he took other children into his home and raised them as his own. Survivors include his spouse, Lena John of Na-Ah-Tee; and nine children, Sarah Cleveland of Na-Ah-Tee, Eleanora Yellowhair of Ft. Defiance, Billy John Jr. of Dilcon, Nora John of Na-Ah-Tee, Mary M. Chee of Na-Ah-Tee, Anson John of Gallup, Ernest John of Twin Lakes, Larry John of Na-Ah-Tee and Jerry Yellowhair of Na-Ah-Tee. He was preceded in death by his stepfather Tsinnajinni Tsosie, mother Tsinnajinnie Tsosie’s wife, and two sisters, Mae Chee Begay and Olive Nez. Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
