Bert Bowannie Jr., 78, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015, in Flagstaff. Traditional burial was held April 1 at Quincy Memorial Cemetery in Zuni, N.M. He was born on Feb. 16, 1937, to Bert and Lula Bowannie in Zuni, and had been a resident of Arizona since 1958. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. His grandchildren were most important to him. Nana played a significant role in the upbringing of all his grandchildren. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Survivors include his son, Bert Bowannie III; his stepson, Luther McLean; his daughters, Marcie, Carol (Gus), Analela, Denise (Faron) and Luberta (Floyd); his stepdaughter, Ursula Roach; his sister, Edna Pedro; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert Bowannie Sr. and Lula Leshmany; his wife, Blanche Bowannie; three brothers, Al, Jose and Phillip; and a sister, Lela Mae. Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
