By Sam Conner The Winslow Ministerial Association honored Apolinar Gonzales as its Good Samaritan for the past year at its annual Ministerial Association service held Jan. 24 at the First Baptist Church. Gonzales, who is in his mid-80s, began volunteering with the Compassion Pantry in 2008 and put in 150 volunteer hours for the year 2012. He has helped in many areas of the operation, including building food boxes, bagging produce and drinks, helping load the food items into the clients’ vehicles and helping with a food drive held at Walmart Nov. 17, 2012. There is never a complaint about a task assigned him. The Compassion Pantry, a ministry of Our Saviors Compassion, served 5,694 families (20,444 people) from the Winslow and the Leupp area. Rev. Douglas Evans is the pastor directing the operation. Many other volunteers are involved in this important ministry work. Those with more than 100 hours of volunteer work last year included Julia DePan, 365 hours; Eli Milazzo, 200 hours; Lehua Curley, 260 hours; Lamuel Curley, 125 hours; and Dale Shane, 140 hours.
