Editor,
Northeastern Arizona sure celebrated the 25th anniversary of signing the Declaration of Independence in some great ways. Here in Holbrook, it started at around 6 a.m. as volunteers met down at Gillespie Park to place the American Flags on Hopi Drive and Navajo Blvd. What a beautiful site as citizens and visitors enter Holbrook. They decorate the park for every major holiday.
Then on to Hunt Park. Kids of all ages came with bikes, wagons, scooters, etc. to join the parade sponsored by the Holbrook Kiwanis Club. Thanks to the City of Holbrook and the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department for giving the youngsters an escort for the parade. Then came fun and games till around 11–11:30 a.m. Then it was off to the fire station on the hill for the annual fireman’s barbecue lunch. It might be the same recipe, but it seems to taste better every year.
Spend time with family and then out to the county complex for the fireworks show. People were lined up all along the roads, highway, and the complex itself was full to overflowing. The word has gotten out what an awesome job the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department does. On behalf of my family, thank you to the Kiwanis Club, the city, the county, and the fire department for another fantastic birthday party for our beautiful country.
