Holbrook’s baseball team heads into this week’s three-game home stand still in search of its first win. After going 0-4 at the highly competitive Fountain Hills tournament last weekend, the Roadrunners opened their regular season by hosting Winslow on Thursday and found themselves on the wrong end of an 11-1 final score.

The Roadrunners had troubles with Winslow pitching, coming up with just two hits in the game. Javier Quintana went one for two with a double and an RBI. Robert Jaquez was one for three. Nikko Ferniza scored Holbrook’s only run after reaching base on a Winslow error. As a team Holbrook had four strikeouts and walked just three times.

Winslow scored four runs in the first inning to gain the early momentum, then pushed that margin to 8-1 through three innings. In the top of the sixth the Bulldogs increased the margin to the necessary 10 runs to put the mercy rule into effect.

Quintana took the loss for Holbrook. He worked just two innings, facing 19 batters. He gave up eight runs, only three earned, on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Ryan Baldonado came on in relief and worked the final four innings. He gave up three runs on five hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts.
