The Lobos were in Page on Friday night and as expected, they rolled over the hometown Sand Devils, 47-0. Three first period touchdowns set the tone early and the Lobo defense pitched the shutout for Snowflake’s sixth win of the season against just one loss.

It took a few minutes for the Lobos to find their stride after a long bus ride, but near the midway point of the first quarter Chase Walden found Rick Shumway for a 10-yard touchdown pass. Hunter Farr’s point after kick put the Lobos on top 7-0.

Five minutes later Walden scored on a 10-yard run, then just two minutes after that he scored again, this time on a two-yard run, leaving Snowflake on top 19-0 at the end of the first.

In the second it was Dallin Merrell on the receiving end of a 16-yard Walden scoring toss. Farr’’s point after kick put the Lobos ahead 26-0 at the half.

With 6:44 left in the third period Braccin Tanner scored on an 11-yard scamper, and just two minutes later Walden reached the end zone for his third rushing touchdown, this one from three yards out, extending Snowflake’s lead to 40-0.

The sole Lobo score in the fourth came when Ty Reidhead connected with Jake Shumway for a 54-yard catch and run. Farr tacked on the final point of the night in the big Snowflake win.

The Lobo defense controlled field position for most of the night and forced six Page turnovers, leaving the offensive unit with short fields to work with. For that reason Snowflake only netted 342 yards of total offense.

Walden completed seven of 10 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Reidhead threw just one pass, completing it for 54 yards and a score. Jake Shumway caught two for 79 yards. Merrell had two grabs for 42 yards. Rick Shumway had two catches for 40 yards. Doug Brimhall had one reception for 18 yards and Brit Smith caught one ball for a five-yard gain.

On the ground Walden led the team, gaining 97 yards on 19 runs. Tanner rushed seven times for 63 yards. Reidhead carried once for 12. Farr rushed four times for nine yards. Josh Kelley gained six on one rush. Trevor McNeil rushed once for a yard.

Forrest Touchstone led the team on defense with 11 tackles. Reidhead made seven tackles. Brimhall had six stops. Jake Shumway had two interceptions. Merrell, Brimhall, Garett Hunt and Reggie Peterson each had a fumble recovery.

This week the 6-1 Lobos head to the dome in Eagar to take on a Round Valley team that has won three games in a row, including last week’s close 42-36 win over Window Rock. These two teams have split their last four meetings, but this year the Lobos appear to have a much better team. Playing in the dome always gives the Elks a huge home field advantage that is difficult to overcome, though. This year Round Valley is playing in a lower division than Snowflake and would like nothing more than to upset the Lobos. The good news for Snowflake is that it simply has too much talent on both sides of the ball to let that happen.
