Hosting a Mogollon squad that came into Holbrook without a blemish on its regular season schedule at 12-0, the Lady Roadrunners needed a solid outing to have a chance to pull an upset.

Early on in the first game it appeared Holbrook would have what it took as the Lady Roadrunners opened up a seven-point lead. By the time the first game came to an end, though, the Lady Mustangs with their powerful hitting attack pulled away and won it 25-22.

In the second game Holbrook fell behind early and never recovered, losing it 25-14.

Game three looked as if it could go Holbrook’s way as the Lady Birds again started well. This time they battled tough throughout and had the game knotted at 20-20. Down the stretch Mogollon went to its power hitting and edged Holbrook 25-21 to win the match in three games.

Kellin Bakurza ended with 11 assists, served one ace and had four digs. Aaren LaRose finished with three kills, served well with five aces and had nine digs. Shandie Demuth had a kill, four assists, an ace, four digs and a block. Corazon Alvardo added a kill and two digs. Tess Baldonado helped with two kills, an assist, an ace, 11 digs and two blocks. Janecia Nez added a kill, an ace and four digs. Maria Garcia helped out with a kill and a dig. Samantha Smith added two kills, an assist and two digs.
