The Arizona Interscholastic Association Inc. (AIA) has presented Joseph City Athletic Director Michael Sterkowitz with the 2011 Pursuing Victory With Honor Administrator of the Year award.

Sterkowitz received the award during the recent 2011 AIA Champions Luncheon, held in Surprise.

Cindy Riley, president of the AIA Board of Directors, presented Sterkowitz with the award and noted his long-standing involvement with the 1A Conference, during which he has served on many committees, including the AIA Finance Advisory Committee and the AIA Fiscal Implementation Committee.

Sterkowitz is presently the 2011 1A Athletic Conference president and the 1A Conference AIA Legislative Council representative.

During his acceptance speech at the awards luncheon, Sterkowitz said that in his 13 years as the Joseph City athletic director, he has watched the high school’s sports teams win 21 state championships, 15 runner-up titles and 37 regional titles. The school is also a five-time E.A. Rowe award winner.

“We try to do everything with honor, class and sportsmanship,” Sterkowitz said of his school’s athletic program participants.

Sterkowitz has worked for Joseph City Schools since 1986.

He holds numerous awards and honors, and has participated in various fundraiser activities, including fundraising for scholarships for local high school graduates. He provides music for his church and volunteers as an official for junior high sporting events.
