The Wildcats of Joseph City won all three of their home games last week, including an exciting two-run win over Northland Prep on Tuesday, then a romp over Rock Point in doubleheader action on Senior Day on Saturday.
Tuesday’s game was a back and forth battle in which the Cats started slowly, but finished strong to secure a come from behind, 16-14 win.
Northland Prep scored six runs in the first inning to take the early lead. The Cats found their bats in the third, scoring six of their own runs to lead the game 8-7 at that point. The Spartans battled back with five runs in the fourth to again build a big lead.
Trailing by four runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats really got things going on offense. Remington Baldwin led off the inning by hitting his second home run of the day. Brannick Carlisle followed that up with a two-run blast to pull the Cats within one of the lead. Those two big hits ignited the rest of the team. Baldwin came up for the second time in the inning and was intentionally walked. Zachary Miller made the Spartans pay with a single up the middle. By the time the sixth was over, the Wildcats had scored seven runs to take the lead into the seventh, where they held the Spartans to just one and secured the win.
Baldwin had a big day, going four for four with two homers, a double, three RBIs, one walk and scored three times. Carlisle was three for four with a home run, a triple, three RBIs and scored twice. Brandon Massey went two for four with a triple, an RBI and scored twice. Robert Larsen was two for three with a double, a walk, two RBIs and scored twice. Wyatt Johnson went two for four with a double, two RBIs and scored once.

Saturday’s games went much smoother for the Wildcats. Seniors Brannick Carlisle, Taylor Pogue and Zachary Miller, along with manager Malisa Farnes, all took part in their final home games, winning the first 15-1, then taking the second 18-1.
In the opener, Joseph City scored five runs in the first, then blew the game open with nine in the second.
Pogue pitched three innings with seven strikeouts to pick up the win.
At the plate, Carlisle was one for one with a home run. Baldwin went three for four with a home run, two doubles, two RBIs and scored three runs. Dallas Elmer was one for two with a home run, walked once, had four RBIs and scored three runs. Larsen went two for three with a triple, a double, an RBI and scored twice. Colton Spurlock was three for three with a double, three RBIs and scored once. Johnson went two for three with two doubles and scored once.
The second game went much like the first as Joseph City scored nine runs in the first to seize control.
Elmer went two for two with a triple, three RBIs and scored twice. Miller was three for five and scored three runs. Pogue went three for four with an RBI and scored once. Cody Davis went two for three with a triple, walked once, had an RBI and scored a run.
The Wildcats improved to 15-3 with the three wins and faced a critical road game against Mogollon on Tuesday that will determine the top seed for the regional tournament. If the Wildcats beat the Mustangs, that would force a first place tie and a playoff game for the top seed. A loss would send the Cats to the tourney as the two seed. Their game against Northland Prep scheduled for Friday has been canceled, leaving the trip to Heber as their regular season finale.
