The Holbrook Chamber of Commerce met March 10 to discuss business matters.

First on the agenda was a discussion of upcoming events, including an Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) meeting scheduled for March 31, a Holbrook Youth Basketball League and Holbrook High School benefit powwow to be held on April 2 in Muñoz Gym, as well as an update on events for Old West Days in July.

The AOT meeting is scheduled to take place from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Holbrook Public Library, and is open to business owners looking for insight on how to expand their business relating to tourism. There will be a series of 15 to 20-minute breakout sessions, as well as a continental breakfast provided for those in attendance.

The chamber board previously approved a $300 expenditure for the powwow from the Native American Dances fund, as it will attract visitors from other areas.

The Old West Days committee is holding bi-monthly meetings in order to prepare for this year’s event, which promises to be an outstanding one. It will include a K.C. Masterpiece professional barbecue competition, an expanded Bucket of Blood Races that will include a half-marathon, live entertainment, a car show hosted by the Route 66 Gearheads, live entertainment and much more. Tommy Duncan, the owner of Whiskey Ranch Barbecue and organizer of the barbecue competition that will host 30 teams, will be in Holbrook on March 22, and will make a presentation to the Holbrook City Council regarding the upcoming event.

The chamber executive board approved a contract with Phil Wills to repair the chamber’s computer and maintain the chamber website at a cost not to exceed $100 per month.

Also approved was the job description for an advertising position with the chamber for the marquee at the corner of Hopi Drive and Navajo Blvd. The position will be paid on commission only and will be advertised.
