Six 3A North Region girls’ basketball teams qualified for the Arizona State 3A Conference Championship Tournament. The top three seeds in the tournament by power points are from the region. Oddly, by the power point system, the Tuba City Lady Warriors were seeded second despite losing two of the three times they played the third seeded Monument Valley Lady Mustangs, including in the regional tournament.
The Window Rock Lady Scouts defeated Monument Valley to win the 3A North Region Tournament in Chinle on Saturday. Tuba City finished third in the tournament with a win over Winslow. Those four teams, the Chinle Lady Wildcats and the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners all qualified for the state tournament.
The Lady Scouts are the top seed in the tournament and will host No. 16 River Valley on Friday, Feb. 18. Should they win, they will play the winner of a No. 9 Coolidge at No. 8 Snowflake game at Tim’s Toyota Center at Prescott on Monday, Feb. 21. The semi-finals and finals will be at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25 and 26.
On that same side of the bracket are No. 12 Alchesay at No. 5 Safford and No. 13 Fountain Hills at No. 4 Estrella Foothills, who also meet Friday night, with the winners advancing to the quarterfinal games.
The remainder of the Friday games include No. 15 Sedona Red Rock at No. 2 Tuba City, No. 14 Round Valley at No. 3 Monument Valley, No. 11 Holbrook at No. 6 Winslow and No. 10 Chinle at No. 7 Florence.
