Holbrook residents have reason to be proud of 9-year-old Griffin Lamb, who took first place in the Ari-zona State Elks Hoop Shoot for the 8-9 year old age group held Feb. 5 in Apache Junction. Griffin shot 19 of 25 free throws, resulting in a tie, then took the title by shooting three out of five baskets. Griffin, the son of John Lamb and Daphne Lamb of Holbrook, will now go on to compete against his California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah counterparts on Saturday, Feb. 19, in Las Vegas, Nev. If Griffin wins there, he will go on to compete in the National Hoop Shoot, which will be held in April in Springfield, Mass. Griffin won the state contest after winning Holbrook’s local Hoop Shoot, as well as the regional Hoop Shoot in Flagstaff.
