The Joseph City Lady Wildcats are headed to the state tournament this weekend on the heels of capturing the 1A North Regional Tournament crown last weekend in Flagstaff.
The Lady Cats defeated Fredonia in their opening round game last Friday by a final of 65-36, then took down Northland Prep 63-37 in semifinal action on Saturday morning. On Saturday afternoon they brought down St. Michael in the championship game by a final of 59-41.
In the title game Taylor Hill led the team with 17 points. Mackenzie Fields added 12, as did Searra Hansen. Brooke Baldwin scored 8, Brianna Massey added 6 and Kristin Baldwin netted 4 in the win.
Joseph City enters the 16-team state bracket as the No. 1 seed from the North Region and will face Duncan, the fourth place team from the South Region, in the first round at 3 o’clock this afternoon (Feb. 11) at Bradshaw Mountain High School in Prescott.
If the Lady Wildcats win that game, they will meet either Valley Union or Joy Christian in the quarterfinal round on Saturday at either Bradshaw Mountain High School or Prescott High School. With two wins, Joseph City would move on to the semifinal round next weekend.
“These girls have improved a lot, and I think they are ready to make a run at the state title in 1A,” said Coach John Bryant.
