Joseph City’s Wildcats won’t be playing in the state basketball tournament this year, as their season came to a close in the first round of the North Regional Tournament held over the weekend at Sinagua High School in Flagstaff.
The Wildcats entered the tourney as the fourth seed and had to face top seeded El Capitan in the first round. The Eagles proved worthy of the top spot by ousting the Cats 72-47.
“We hung with them for two and a half quarters, but after that they finished us off. The boys played hard the whole way, but it wasn’t enough,” said Coach Eric Miller.
“Overall, it was a frustrating season for us, but I must give credit to the players. They never gave up and gave it their all the entire season.”
Zachary Miller led the Cats in their final game, scoring 13 points with five assists. Daniel Bushman added 11 with seven rebounds and four steals. Dallin Baldwin scored 9 and grabbed seven boards. Jacob Fields netted 6 and had two steals. Wyatt Bain scored 5 with two steals, and Josh Parra, 3.
Joseph City wrapped up the season with an overall record of 8-20.
