Snowflake won its first region game of the season on Friday night when they dismantled visiting Poston Butte 42-7. The win extended the Lobo’s season-long winning streak to six straight games and leaves them atop the 4A power rankings.
The game was surprisingly close at the half, with the Lobos holding a 14-7 lead. The third quarter quickly changed the tone of the game, with Snowflake finding the end zone four times.
Snowflake’s first possession ended on downs, but their second was successful when Brenner Green capped a 67-yard drive with a 32-yard scoring run. McCoy Norton’s point-after-kick was good, and the Lobos led 7-0 early in the quarter.
Green found the end zone for the second time in the quarter, this time from 23 yards out. Norton’s boot pushed the lead to 14-0.
The Broncos’ only second-quarter score came when they capped a long scoring drive with a short touchdown pass. Their PAT was good, making the score 14-7 at the half.
The Lobos dominated the third quarter. Jacob LaDuke connected with Colter Willis for a 28-yard strike to make it 21-7.
Their next possession ended with a LaDuke 35-yard scoring pass to Edge Bryant, moving the lead to 28-7.
Green scored his third touchdown of the night on a short 10-yard run, making it 35-7.
Late in the third quarter, Green scored on a short 2-yard run, ending the scoring for the night with Snowflake on top 42-7.
LaDuke completed 8 of 15 passes for 179 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bryant caught 2 passes for 74 yards and 1 touchdown. Colter Willis caught 2 passes for 48 yards and scored. Mason Raban caught 3 for 52. Eli Willis had 1- 5-yard reception.
Green led the ground attack with 106 yards and four touchdowns on just 15 carries. LaDuke gained 43 yards on 7 carries, and Colter Willis rushed once for 6 yards.
This week, the top-ranked Lobos will travel to Combs to face the 29th-ranked Coyotes, who are 3-3. They won their first three games of the season, but have now dropped their last three, including last week’s 42-7 loss to Arcadia.
Snowflake won this game last year 31-14. Not sure this year’s outcome will be that close. Look for Snowflake to move to 7-0 heading into their game with eighth-ranked Eastmark in two weeks.
