The Lady Roadrunners found their shooting touch in Thursday night’s home court win over ALA-West Foothills.

Holbrook was seeded 15th in the pool round of the state tournament and hosted the 19th seeded Guardians who came in with a better overall record. ALA was the much taller team, but Holbrook’s hot shooting and ability to break the Guardian’s full court press let them pull away in the second half.

Holbrook led 17-12 after the first and extended that lead to 26-18 at the break. The third quarter saw the Birds start shooting well from distance. Holbrook drained 21 points in each of the third and fourth quarters to win the game 68-39 and advance to the first round of the state tournament bracket.

Bailey Williams finished the night with 26 points making 6 for 11 from behind the arc. She also pulled down 11 rebounds. She sparked Holbrook’s hot shooting with the team, making 11 of their 23 shots from distance. They also played well defensively for most of the night.

Along with Williams 26, Channing Harrington added 12 points with 10 assists; Maya Francisco, 11; Angelica Uranga-Williams, 9; Sami Thomas, 4; Darien Kedelty, 3; Jamie Bain, 2 and KC Tsosie added 1.

With the win, Holbrook moves on in the 3A state championship bracket at the 11th overall seed. They will face the sixth seeded Cougars in Show Low on Wednesday night.

Holbrook and Show Low split their two meetings this year. The Cougars won by 5 in overtime in Show Low, while the Roadrunners prevailed by double digits in Holbrook.

The winner of this game will travel to Yuma Catholic with a spot in the final four on the line against the third-ranked Shamrocks. The loser will have their season come to a close.

Holbrook is 15-13 overall, while Show Low sits at 14-13 on the season.
