The Wildcats finished the season with a 22-8 record and head to Tuesday’s opening round of the 1A state tournament coming off an 11-day rest.
The Cats were ranked fifth in the final rankings, meaning they did not have to compete in the 1A play-in games. As the fifth seed they will now host Dishchii’bikoh on Tuesday night. The two teams faced off on Dec. 15 when the Wildcats won 85-70 in an offensive minded game. This time the winner moves on and the loser has their season come to a close.
With a win Joseph City would face either No. 4 The Gregory School, or No. 13 Ray on the road in the quarterfinal round played on Friday. The Wildcats lost to The Gregory School in an early season tournament by 12 points. They did not play Ray this year.
Fort Thomas is the No. 1 seed in the bracket and would be a potential hurdle for the Wildcats in the semifinal round if they were to advance that far.
The semi-final round is on Saturday with the 1A title game played at 3:30 p.m. on the 27th at Veterans Memorial.
