Snowflake’s Lady Lobos completed the regular season with two more wins last week. They took care of Show Low on Tuesday with a 50-36 win. The following night they defeated visiting Winslow convincingly, 59-26.
Playing in Show Low, Ranell West led the way in scoring with 15 points. Tayli Hancock added 11; Ryah Denhalter, 9; Josie Clare, 7; Bryn Kupfer, 6; and Aubrey Denhalter helped with 7.
Hosting the Bulldogs on senior night, Snowflake was led by Ryah Denhalter’s 19-point effort. AJ Yarn added 13; Kupfer, 11; Ranell West, 7; Clare, 5; Aubrey Denhalter, and Harrli Nichols each had 2 points.
With the two wins Snowflake secured the east region title, along with the top seed in both the Copper tournament bracket as well as the 3A state championship bracket.
As the top seeded team in the Copper tournament the Lobos will face 16th seeded Pusch Ridge on Tuesday night in Snowflake with a 7 p.m. tip time. The Lobos defeated Pusch Ridge back on Dec. 12, by a final of 53-20, so they don’t expect to be tested this time out. If the Lobos get the expected win, they face either No. 9 Page or No. 9 Mohave Accelerated in the second round on Thursday. A loss in either of the first two rounds will send the Lobos back to the 3A state championship bracket where they would remain the top seed despite coming in with a loss.
If the Lobos remain in the Copper tournament they would play in the semifinal round on Feb. 21, and the championship game a week later on the 28th.
Snowflake enters the post season with an overall record of 27-1.
