The Lady Lobos added two more wins to their impressive resume last week with another pair of lopsided victories over Page and Pusch Ridge.
Hosting the Sand Devils on Tuesday, Snowflake used their size and athleticism to overpower what is typically a solid Page team 58-26. Page is always one of the favorites to win the 3A north and will more than likely be there in the end again this year. However, Snowflake right now is an unstoppable machine.
Ryah Denhalter led the way with 18 points on 50% shooting. Josie Clare added 10; Ranell West, 9; AJ Yarn, 5; Aubrey Denhalter, 4; Harry Nichols, 4; and Bryn Kupfer, Mary Orr, Raylee Hancock and Macie Brimhall each netted 2 in the win. The Lobos with their up and down style took 60 field goal attempts making nearly half of them, although none came from behind the arc.
Friday night the team took their talents to Tucson for a meeting with Pusch Ridge, what is supposed to be one of the better teams in a weaker 3A South Region.
The Lobos once again had no problems. They held the Lions to single digits in each of the four quarters, easily winning the game 56-20.
With the two wins Snowflake improved their overall record to 9-1. They are 5-0 in regular season contests. This week they may face their toughest test to date at least in the 3A ranks when they travel to Tuba City to take on a very good Lady Warrior team. Tuba has compiled an unbeaten regular season record with each of their four wins coming by at least 30 points. They have an outstanding Freshman guard and can shoot lights out. Can they keep up with an athletic and physical Snowflake team? This may be one of the better area games before the Christmas break.
Snowflake will participate in the Eastern Arizona Holiday Basketball Invitational beginning on Thursday. They are slated to see Morenci, and Dysart in pool games on Thursday afternoon and evening. Bracket play should start the next day.
Following the holiday break, they return to action on Jan. 6, with a trip to Alchesay followed by a home game vs Safford on Jan. 8. On Jan. 9, they make a short trip to Holbrook.
