The Navajo County Community College Governing convened for a special meeting Tuesday to approve board travel, an agreement for employee wellness and the acceptance of funds from the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR). Board Member Frank Lucero was not in attendance during the meeting.

The board entered into an executive session regarding negotiations for the purchase, sale or lease of real property. No action was taken or details released.

During the meeting the board:

* Accepted $90,838 in funding from ABOR to fund scholarships through the Promise Program. This is not grant money, as the money is not connected to a grant, but is provided from state appropriations.

* Accepted $100,000 in funding from ABOR to fund scholarships for Northland Pioneer students to participate in the Arizona Teachers Academy.

* Approved an agreement with Attentive and EmployWell to implement an expanded employee wellness program. The estimated annual cost is $171,840 if there is full participation from all eligible employees. The cost will be fully offset through payroll tax savings generated by the program, resulting in net savings to both participating qualified employees and the college. A total of 358 employees fully qualify for both programs. It was clarified that there will be no billing outside of the payroll tax savings.

* Approved Board Member Kristine Laughter to travel to the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. in Feb. 2026.

* Approved Board Member Derrick Leslie to travel to the ACCT National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. in February 2026.

* Approved Board Member Rosie Sekayumptewa to travel to the ACCT National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. in February 2026.
