The Roadrunners played three boys’ soccer games last week, all with limited numbers on the roster. The results were predictable with the Birds falling in all three matches.
Hosting St. Johns on Tuesday night, Holbrook fell behind 4-1 at the half, then gave up three more goals in the second half, dropping the match 7-1 to the eighth-ranked Redskins.
The following day, they traveled to Flagstaff for a matchup with third-ranked Northland Prep, which resulted in a 1-10 loss, as they finished the match with just 10 players.
Friday afternoon, they again played shorthanded in Blue Ridge, where the sixth-ranked Yellowjackets blanked them 0-9.
Holbrook has good players and good coaching; they are just at a big disadvantage this season with limited names on the roster. The team is now 0-7 and will have this coming week off to hopefully heal some injured players and get at least a couple of subs on their bench for three games during fall break.
The Lady Roadrunners do have a couple of subs on their bench and earned a split in two games last week. Hosting Snowflake on Tuesday last week, they were no match for the second-ranked Lobos, who defeated Holbrook 9-0.
The following day, the team traveled to Camp Verde for a better match-up with the eighth-ranked Cowboys. In a game that went back and forth, Holbrook’s Camesah Bahe scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from Maya Francisco in the final minutes of the match to win it 4-3, collecting their second win of the season.
Holbrook enters this week ranked 10th with their 2-5 record and will play at Northland Prep on Tuesday, then host Blue Ridge on Thursday.
