Homecoming night went all Holbrook’s way with the Roadrunners pounding Pinon 60-6 in front of their homecoming crowd.
The action started quickly with William Kinds returning the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. Jonathan Sample scored the second touchdown on a quarterback keeper from 4 yards out.
Darren Justman connected with Simeon Shaw on an 81-yard catch and run, extending Holbrook’s lead to 24-0, still in the first quarter, with Matthias Montijo converting all three two-point runs.
In the second quarter, Kinds scored on a 26-yard reception from Justman, and Montijo ran one in from 34 yards out. Manny Rico got into the scoring column with a 13-yard rushing score, extending Holbrook’s lead to 46-0 at the half.
In the fourth, Daniel John had a 20-yard scoring catch and Kinds returned a Pinon pass attempt 99 yards for a pick 6 for the final points in a 60-6 Holbrook win.
Justman completed 12 of 17 passes for 269 yards with three touchdowns. Montijo had 9 carries for 87 yards and a score. Shaw had 4 catches for 154 total yards and gained 38 yards on 1 carry. Kinds had 55 receiving yards to go along with the kickoff return and the defensive score. Sample completed his only pass and scored 1 touchdown.
With the win, Holbrook improved their season mark to 4-2. Pinon was their first region opponent. This week, they step out of region play and step up in competition, for the final time this season, when they host a very good Camp Verde team.
The Cowboys lost their first game of the season to unbeaten Veritas Prep, but have since won five straight, outscoring their opponents in those five wins 617-31. They have a balanced attack with over 1,000 yards rushing and passing. They have 16 passing touchdowns and 13 rushing touchdowns thus far.
Holbrook can also score points with their group of senior skill players. This should be a high-scoring game; the question is, can Holbrook’s defense slow down the Cowboys? The game being in Holbrook should help, but this will be a tough test for the Roadrunners before they finish the regular season with two easy region games.
