Football Winslow

On Sept. 19, the Winslow Bulldogs traveled to Gilbert to face the undefeated Knights of Gilbert Christian. The Knights are big, fast and with a deep bench and playoff bound. The Bulldogs were still without some of their starting members but the junior varsity and young varsity members would give it their all. In the first quarter the Bulldogs would prevent the Knights from getting into the end zone and Bulldog Jonathon Perdue got an interception at the 7-yard line preventing the touchdown.

The second quarter was when the Knights would step on the gas early with Caleb Ely connecting Malachi Allman on a 20-yard pass play, point after by Gabe Caballero. Bulldog James Mendoza would then have a 20-yard kick return. But the Knights’ Kamari Stanbury would end up scoring on a 35-yard interception run, followed by the point after good. At the mid-way mark Allman scored on a 65-yard pass run with the point after. With just 33 seconds in the half, Stanbury would score on a 4-yard pass point after good for a halftime score of Gilbert Christian 28, Winslow 0.

In the third quarter the Knights would score with a 4-yard run by Camdon Gorsline, with the point after good. With eight minutes left in the quarter, the Knights would score a short pass from Caballero to Brodan Barth with the point after good, giving the Knights a 42-point lead and thus start the running clock.

With three minutes left in the game the Knights would score for the final time with Dusty’s 62-yard carry for the touchdown, no point after, for a final score of Gilbert Christian 48 Winslow 0.

Next week the Bulldogs will travel to Chinle to take on the Wildcats for a Thursday night game which starts at 6 p.m. Winslow time.
