The Winslow Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Good Morning Winslow networking was held last week with Waste Management hosting the event and steered the conversation toward the future of recycling in the community.
Rather than delivering a traditional presentation, the company invited an open discussion with local business owners. Michael Black, route manager for Winslow, asked attendees if they would be willing to resume recycling services and what their needs might be to make it feasible. “We see a lot of recyclable materials in the trash,” Black noted, stressing the potential for reducing waste if businesses participated. Black shared that recycling an aluminum can has the ability to power a laptop for an hour or a television for a couple of hours.
Joining him was account manager Veronica Trauthwein, who met with customers directly to answer questions and hear feedback. Andy Gutierrez, head of the Winslow transfer station, also addressed the group, encouraging businesses to reach out if they need assistance, equipment, or information to support their operations.
The conversation was part of Waste Management’s effort to better understand the needs of Winslow’s commercial sector and explore ways to reintroduce recycling programs that have been scaled back in recent years. Chamber officials said the monthly event is designed to give business leaders a platform to connect, share resources, and discuss issues affecting the local economy.
Chamber of Commerce CEO Bob Hall mentioned that there would be no Good Morning Winslow for the month of September and would resume again the first Wednesday in October.
