On Feb. 4, the Winslow boys and girls wrestlers hosted their final meet of the regular season with Joseph City, Hopi and Monument Valley. It was also senior night for Bulldog wrestlers including Amanda Childers, Lucresia Nutumya, Analycia Venenzuela and Natalia Tahy, and Perry Alberry, Jacob Alvarado, Benjamin Couchman, Ethan Joe, Marcellus Lenz, Elias Mansfield and Michael Romero, who were escorted to the mat by their families.
The Winslow girls would go 3-0 in the match. Winslow boys would go 1-1-1 for the match.
On Feb. 8, the Division II District III qualifications for the state tournament were held at Petrovich Gym with the top four wrestlers moving on to state. There were 19 teams participating.
Girl wrestlers moving on to state include in the 100-pound class, Ruthie Wilhelm of Show Low, placed first; Evalyn Perez of Snowflake, second; Kara Hooper of Round Valley, third; and Dawa-Mansi Poleahla of Hopi, fourth.
In the 107-pound class, Reagan Jamaillo of Round Valley, placed first; Ryen Murray of Holbrook, second; Emily Curley of Monument Valley, third; and Amanda Childers of Winslow, fourth.
In the 114-pound class, Nelly Rawlings of Show Low, placed first; Amber Masayesva of Holbrook, second; Hazel Shortman of Monument Valley, third; and Mairead Greenwood of Snowflake, fourth.
In the 120-pound class, Nannabah Haskan of Monument Valley, placed first; Emily Perez of Snowflake, second; Qwynci Decker of Show Low, third; and Orvianna Chee of Ganado, fourth.
In the 126-pound class, Taizly Newman of Round Valley, placed first; Xyomara Navarro of Blue Ridge, second; Rheanna Tree of Red Mesa, third; and Carli Jones of Chinle, fourth.
In the 132-pound class, Raidanna Sutton of Chinle, placed first; Mya Tsinnijinnie of Page, second; Brooklinn Baldwin of Snowflake, third; and Makayla Rock of Monument Valley, fourth.
In the 138-pound class, Kaytlin LaDuke of Snowflake, placed first; McKenna Hardy of Winslow, second; Leyonna Sombrero of Page, third; and Torii Tachine of Pinon, fourth.
In the 145-pound class, Ava Harding of Show Low, placed first; Madison De La Cruz of Snowflake, second; Rosario Carrillo of Holbrook, third; and DeMarius Morris of Page, fourth.
In the 152-pound class, Makyah Slade of Round Valley, placed first; Nanibaa Caddo of Blue Ridge, second; Cheyenne Kescoli of Monument Valley, third; and Laini Hancock of Snowflake, fourth.
In the 165-pound class, Paige Kee of Window Rock, placed first; Logan Rivers of Page, second; Madison VanWagner of Show Low, third; and Peyton Holmes of Monument Valley, fourth.
In the 185-pound class, Sydnee Finch of Round Valley, placed first; Mareli Marin of Snowflake, second; Shanelle Tallsalt of Page, third; and Lucaiva Begay of Window Rock, fourth.
In the 235-pound class, Ellie Bryant of Snowflake placed first, and Mya Tahy of Shonto Prep, second.
These ladies will compete at the state tournament, Feb. 21-22, in Phoenix at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Division II District III boys will also be held in Winslow at 9 a.m. on Feb. 15.
