The Navajo County Community College Governing Board held a special meeting last Tuesday to select the new college president. The meeting was to include two executive sessions, one to determine the selection for president and the second to consult with, and provide direction to the board’s attorney regarding a possible contract with the selected candidate.

Following a two-hour executive session, the board reconvened into regular session, at which time Board Chair Everett Robinson stated, “At this point we do not need executive session two as we have not reached a consensus on a candidate.” Following that statement, the board adjourned the meeting.

Under consideration are three candidates for the position, Dr. Doug Binsfeld, Dr. Von Lawson and Dr. Jeff Thies. Since July 2020, Dr. Binsfeld has served as the vice president for academic and student affairs at Upper Iowa University (UIU), where he acts as the institution’s chief academic officer. Dr. Lawson serves at Mt. San Jacinto College, Calif., as the dean of instruction for the People, Culture and Public Service Pathway. Dr. Thies has worked for Pima Community College, most recently serving to temporarily fill the role of acting provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs.

The next meeting for the board will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
