In case the recent weather wasn’t enough of a reminder, it is now officially the beginning of the holiday season in our communities. Coming soon will be a host of events including parades, tree lightings, festivals and more. It’s a wonderful time for families and friends to gather and to contemplate all that we should be grateful for and it’s also a great opportunity to spread some cheer to those who may feel a bit lonely this time of year.

I encourage everyone to look for an opportunity to serve others and bring the kids along. It could be something simple, like passing out candy canes at community events along with a warm smile and a season’s greeting, to providing a Christmas meal for a family, purchasing a gift for someone in need or inviting a neighbor to dinner. Make this season one that you will cherish and that your kids will talk about when they’re adults, or if they’re adults now, one they will tell their grandkids some day. It’s the season to set aside differences and be the example set by the Savior. I hope we can all make this a goal this holiday season.
