Roberta “Birdie” Wilcox-Cano

Yá’át’ééh, my name is Roberta “Birdie” Wilcox-Cano, and I am running for my third term as mayor of Winslow. I was born and raised in Winslow and proud to be a second-generation Bulldog. I worked for the Department of Corrections for 17 years and seven years with the City of Winslow before being elected as mayor in 2019.

I currently serve on the LCMC hospital board, NACOG Area Council on Aging, National League of Cities Local Indigenous Leaders caucus, and am an active Elks Lodge member. I’m a full time mayor for the City of Winslow and part time substitute teacher.

My tenure as mayor has been productive. I’ve helped secure $101 million dollars for the Winslow Levee Project, $2.5 million for a new water tank, $4.1 million to plan our Winslow Lindberg Parkway, and have several pending federal funding requests in process to improve our city’s infrastructure.

I’ve developed collaborative relationships with our Governor’s office, state and federal senators and representatives, county officials, fellow Arizona mayors, as well as our tribal Navajo and Hopi leaders and councils.

Other accomplishments include, raises for all city employees, a new library, a new city hall, grants for improved parks and equipment, economic development opportunities, workforce housing initiatives, and receiving national attention from news reports and Winslow’s feature on HGTV (Hometown Kick Start).

I am focused on the community, having supported citywide activities and cultural events, tourism, clean city initiatives and building opportunities for our future generations. The City of Winslow is on a trajectory towards growth, and I am focused building a thriving Winslow. My next two years will be spent on continued advocacy for infrastructure funding, solving our energy needs and bringing sustainable industry to our citizens. Keep Winslow moving forward and re-elect Birdie Cano for mayor. Ahéhee’, Thank you.
