Rachael Lewis is a Title I Reading Specialist at Highland Primary School in Snowflake, where she and husband, Hunter Lewis, live with their four children. With a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University, she began her teaching career in 2005.
Lewis later decided to become a full-time mother, but couldn’t stay out of the classroom. She continued as a substitute teacher, PTO mom, church youth leader, and tutor.
She returned to teaching full-time and earned a Master’s Degree in Elementary Reading. She is passionate about serving and supporting students and her fellow teachers.
According to Lewis, as a public educator and mother of school-aged children, I am deeply invested in education. All children in Navajo County deserve every opportunity to succeed and should be our top priority. The needs of our students are diverse and continue to grow and change. As Navajo County School Superintendent, I will honor, respect and listen to the unique needs of each school district in our rural communities. Every community will have a voice as I create an advisory council that includes parents, students, teachers (public, charter and home school), administrators and other stakeholders.
I will continue to support teachers by helping them do what they went into the profession to do, teach. When teachers are supported, valued and heard, this support has a ripple effect, helping students succeed. I will help districts provide professional development that is relevant and immediately applicable in the classroom.
I believe that all parents have the right to choose where and how their children are educated.
School funds should be guarded and spent appropriately. As Navajo County School Superintendent, I will ensure financial reporting is entirely transparent and above board.
I have a sincere desire to serve the students, teachers, parents, and administrators of Navajo County.
