Cynthia Marlane Ortega passed away on April 19, 2024. A Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Holbrook.
Cindy, affectionately known to her family as “Missy,” was born on May 20, 1962, to Bettina (Begay) Ortega and Antonio Ortega in Holbrook. Cindy graduated from Holbrook High School in May 1980 with a full ride scholarship to both Notre Dame and the University of Arizona. Cindy stayed back in Holbrook to raise her daughter, Elizabeth.
Cindy’s greatest accomplishments were her children, whom she loved very much. Cindy’s biggest love of her life was her grandson and buddy, Noah Ortega, whom she spent every day with. Cindy would tell him the story of Stone Soup but would change the ingredients to make Calabasitas.
Cindy was preceded in death by her son, Angel Martinez; grandson, Ethan Brown; father, Antonio Ortega; mother, Bettina Ortega; brother, Matthew Ortega; and nephew, Uriahas Ortega, as well as her beloved parrot Pablo, whom was probably the only living creature that has ever put her in her place.
Greer’s Mortuary in Winslow handled the arrangements.
